DAY1: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH
Pick-up self drive rental vehicle on arrival at Christchurch International Airport. Self drive to your hotel in the “Garden City”. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the city on your own with rental vehicle..
DAY2: CHRISTCHURCH / MOUNT COOK / DUNEDIN
Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive to Queenstown today. Depart the city of Christchurch and drive across the flat Canterbury Plains to the farming servicing centre of Geraldine and over rolling hill country to Fairlie before climbing up the Burkes Pass and into the MacKenzie High Country. Stop at the “Church of the Good Shepherd”on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Continue on past Lake Pukaki and Twizel and through the small settlement of Omarama before climbing over the Lindis Pass and then descending into the province of Central Otago. Drive across Lake Dunstan and pass through the fruit growing region around Cromwell. Drive on through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and arrive at Queenstown set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax.
DAY 3: DUNEDIN
Today is a free day at leisure with an opportunity to explore on your own or to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as Jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, TSS Earnslaw cruise across Lake Wakatipu to the Walter Peak Sheep Station, gondola ride to Bob's Peak, 4WD Safaris and many more options. (Optional activities are not included in the tour costs) Enjoy your time in Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of New Zealand.
DAY 4: DUNEDIN / TE ANAU
Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive from Dunedin to Te Anau through South Otago. Travel South via the towns of Milton, Balclutha, Gore and Lumsden before crossing the Southland Plains to Te Anau on the shores of the lake, and the gateway to the Fiordland National Park, now proclaimed a World Heritage Park. Arrive at your hotel in the afternoon and the rest of the day is at leisure to relax or take a walk. This evening there is an Optional tour to the Te Anau Glow Worm Caves. (Please note that Optional activities are not included in the tour costs.)
DAY 5: TE ANAU / MILFORD SOUND / QUEENSTOWN
Full day self drive excursion to Milford Sound. Depart from Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park, a World Heritage Park and drive through Beech forests, glaciated valleys, the Homer Tunnel with its 1:10 gradient, and stunning scenery to reach the majestic Milford Sound. Enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord which is dominated by Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls. Drive to Queenstown via Te Anau after the cruise and arrive at your hotel in Queenstown in the afternoon. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax.
DAY 6: QUEENSTOWN
Free day at leisure with an opportunity to explore on your own or to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola ride up to the top of Bob's Peak, TSS Earnslaw Cruise across Lake Wakatipu to the Walter Peak Sheep Station, 4WD safaris and many more options. (Please note that Optional costs are not included in the tour costs). Enjoy your time in Queenstown - the Adventure Capital of New Zealand.
DAY 7: QUEENSTOWN / CHRISTCHURCH
Check out of your hotel this morning. Depart Queenstown and drive to Christchurch traveling through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and the fruit growing area around Cromwell. Drive across Lake Dunstan and on through Central Otago to the Lindis Pass and up into the MacKenzie High Country, through the settlement of Omarama and on to Lake Tekapo. Descend Burkes Pass to Fairlie and drive through gentle rolling hill country to the farming servicing centre of Geraldine, and then across the long, straight roads of the flat Canterbury Plains to the "Garden City" of Christchurch once again.
DAY 8: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH
Check out of your hotel and this morning is at leisure until it is time to self drive to Queenstown Airport and drop-off the rental car before boarding your departure flight. There may be an opportunity for some last minute shopping or time to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola rides, 4WD safaris and many more options. Enjoy your last day in the very picturesque Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of New Zealand. [Please note that above Options are not included in the tour costs].
