Christchurch - Greymouth - Queenstown, Milford Sound - Mount Cook

DAY1: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH

Pick-up self drive rental vehicle on arrival at Christchurch International Airport. Self drive to your hotel in the “Garden City”. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the city on your own with rental vehicle..

DAY2: CHRISTCHURCH / GREYMOUTH

Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive across the Southern Alps via Arthur’s Pass to Greymouth on the West Coast. This afternoon drive north along the rugged West Coast with spectacular scenery to Punakaiki to see the “Pancake Rocks” and the Blow Holes which are especially spectacular at high tide. Return to Greymouth in the late afternoon and check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or perhaps to go for a walk.

DAY 3: GREYMOUTH / FOX GLACIER

Check out of your hotel this morning and drive south to Fox Glacier. Travel via Hokitika, Ross and Harihari passing by several beautiful lakes surrounded by native bush before arriving at Franz Josef Glacier and continuing on to Fox Glacier. There is time today to do an Optional 1/2 day guided glacier walk onto the Fox Glacier itself accompanied by experienced Alpine Guides or perhaps an Optional scenic helicopter flight over the glaciers. (Optional activities are not included in the tour costs.)The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore on your own.

DAY 4: FOX GLACIER / QUEENSTOWN

Check out of the hotel and self drive to Queenstown this morning traveling along the coast and through the small settlement of Haast at the mouth of the Haast River before following the river upstream to the “Gates of Haast” and over the scenic bush clad Haast Pass, the southern most route across the main divide. Travel past the small settlement of Makarora adjacent to the Mount Aspiring National Park and along the shores of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea before passing by the fruitgrowing area around Cromwell and on through the rugged but scenic Kawarau Gorge to Queenstown set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu.

DAY 5: QUEENSTOWN / MILFORD SOUND /QUEENSTOWN

Full day self drive excursion to Milford Sound. Travel alongside the shores of Lake Wakatipu beneath the towering Remarkables mountain range and across the flat Southland Plains to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park, a World Heritage Park. Pass through Beech forests, glaciated valleys, the Homer Tunnel with its 1:10 gradient and stunning scenery to reach the majestic Milford Sound. Enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord which is dominated by Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls. Return to Te Anau afterwards.

DAY 6: QUEENSTOWN / MOUNT COOK / CHRISTCHURCH

Free day at leisure with an opportunity to explore on your own or to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola ride up to the top of Bob's Peak, TSS Earnslaw Cruise across Lake Wakatipu to the Walter Peak Sheep Station, 4WD safaris and many more options. (Please note that Optional costs are not included in the tour costs). Enjoy your time in Queenstown - the Adventure Capital of New Zealand.

DAY 7: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH

Check out of your hotel and this morning is at leisure until it is time to self drive to Queenstown Airport and drop-off the rental car before boarding your departure flight. There may be an opportunity for some last minute shopping or time to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola rides, 4WD safaris and many more options. Enjoy your last day in the very picturesque Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of New Zealand. [Please note that above Options are not included in the tour costs].
