DAY1: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH
Pick-up self drive rental vehicle on arrival at Christchurch International Airport. Self drive to your hotel in the “Garden City”. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the city on your own with rental vehicle..
DAY2: CHRISTCHURCH / GREYMOUTH / FRANZ JOSEF
Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive to Queenstown today. Depart the city of Christchurch and drive across the flat Canterbury Plains to the farming servicing centre of Geraldine and over rolling hill country to Fairlie before climbing up the Burkes Pass and into the MacKenzie High Country. Stop at the “Church of the Good Shepherd”on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Continue on past Lake Pukaki and Twizel and through the small settlement of Omarama before climbing over the Lindis Pass and then descending into the province of Central Otago. Drive across Lake Dunstan and pass through the fruit growing region around Cromwell. Drive on through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and arrive at Queenstown set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax.
DAY 3: FRANZ JOSEF GLACIER / QUEENSTOWN
Drive to Queenstown this morning traveling through the small settlements of Fox Glacier and Haast at the mouth of the Haast River before following the river upstream to the “Gates of Haast” and over the scenic bushclad Haast Pass, the southern most route across the main divide. Travel past the small settlement of Makarora, opposite the Mount Aspiring National Park, and along the shores of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea before passing through the fruit growing area around Cromwell and then through the Kawarau Gorge to Queenstown set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Check in to hotel and rest of the day is at leisure.
DAY 4: QUEENSTOWN / MILFORD SOUND / QUEENSTOWN
Full day excursion to Milford Sound. Drive alongside the shores of Lake Wakatipu beneath the towering Remarkables mountain range and across the flat Southland Plains to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park, now proclaimed a World Heritage Park. Pass through Beech forests, glaciated valleys, the Homer Tunnel with its 1:10 gradient, and stunning scenery to reach the majestic Milford Sound. Enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord which is dominated by Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls.View waterfalls, dolphins, seals and perhaps a penguin. Return to Queenstown in the late afternoon via the same route.
DAY 5: QUEENSTOWN
Free day at leisure with an opportunity to explore on your own with self drive rental car or to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola ride up Bob's Peak, TSS Earnslaw Cruise across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Sheep Station, 4WD safaris and many more options. Enjoy your time in Queenstown - the Adventure Capital of New Zealand. (Please note the above Options are not included in the tour costs)
DAY 6: QUEENSTOWN / ROTORUA
Drive to Queenstown Airport by self drive rental car and drop-off rental car before boarding your aircraft and flying to Rotorua. Pick-up another rental car on arrival at Rotorua Airport and drive to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure for exploring the "Spa City" on your own or relaxing. This evening enjoy a traditional Maori Hangi & Concert.
DAY 7: ROTORUA
Enjoy a self drive ½ day morning sightseeing tour of some of the highlights of Rotorua including a visit to Te Puia Thermal Reserve to see boiling mudpools and geysers, and to learn about Maori culture. Also visit the Paradise Valley Springs to see New Zealand trout, birds and wildlife before continuing on to the Agrodome where you will watch a New Zealand Farm show featuring sheep dog demonstrations, cow milking and learn about the New Zealand sheep farming industry and the different breeds of sheep. The afternoon is at leisure for Optional activities such as a visit to the Polynesian Pools, or exploring on your own. (Please note that Optional activities are not included in the tour costs.)
DAY 8: ROTORUA / WAITOMO CAVES / AUCKLAND
Drive to Christchurch this morning via the small townships of Harihari, Ross and Hokitika to arrive at Greymouth for lunch. Depart for Christchurch in the afternoon and drive across the Southern Alps mountain range via a scenic route through the Arthur’s Pass to Christchurch. Check in to your hotel. Rest of day at leisure for you to relax and enjoy your last night here.
DAY 9: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH
Your arrangements conclude today with the drop off of your rental car at Christchurch International Airport prior to boarding your departure flight. Bon Voyage! We trust that you have enjoyed your New Zealand holiday with Adventure Pacific.
