DAY1: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH

Pick-up self drive rental vehicle on arrival at Christchurch International Airport. Self drive to your hotel in the “Garden City”. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the city on your own with rental vehicle..

DAY2: CHRISTCHURCH

Enjoy a self drive ½ day morning sightseeing tour of the “Garden City”, including Cathedral Square, Christchurch Cathedral, Hagley Park, Canterbury Arts Centre, Botanical Gardens, Mona Vale, Christchurch Antarctic Centre, and a panoramic view from the Port Hills looking back over the city to the Canterbury Plains and the snow covered Southern Alps in the distance. Afternoon at leisure to explore on your own with rental car or relax.

DAY 3: CHRISTCHURCH / KAIKOURA

Check out of the hotel and self drive north to Kaikoura, travelling through the sheep farming region of North Canterbury and up the east coast to the fishing town of Kaikoura. Here you will enjoy a Whalewatch excursion and observe these huge mammals at close quarters from the safety of your cruise vessel. Self drive to your hotel afterwards. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore on your own. Kaikoura is famous for its seafood, e.g. Crayfish.

DAY 4: KAIKOURA / PICTON / WELLINGTON

Depart Kaikoura and self drive along the Kaikoura Coast heading north towards to Blenheim, the centre of the Marlborough Province famous for the Savignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes that are grown in this area. Continue on to Picton and drop-off rental car before boarding the Inter-Island Ferry that will take you across the Cook Strait to Wellington. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Queen Charlotte Sound in the Marlborough Sounds, before sailing across the open waters of the Cook Strait to the beautiful harbour city of Wellington. Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand and is home to the seat of power at Parliament Buildings as well as Te Papa - Museum of New Zealand. On arrival at the Wellington Ferry Terminal, pick-up another self drive rental car and self drive to your hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the many bars and restaurants in Courteney Place on your own - "the" entertainment precinct.

DAY 5: WELLINGTON

Enjoy a self drive ½ day morning sightseeing tour of the “Capital City” of Wellington, including Parliament Buildings, Wellington Cathedral, Botanical Gardens, Oriental Bay, and a panoramic view from the top of Mount Victoria looking over the city and harbour to the Hutt Valley to the north, and south across the Cook Strait to the South Island and the Marlborough Sounds. Return to hotel afterwards. This afternoon is at leisure to explore the Wellington region on your own by self drive rental vehicle and to perhaps visit Te Papa – Museum of New Zealand.

DAY 6: WELLINGTON / NAPIER

Check-out of hotel and drive from Wellington to Napier via the scenic Kapiti region on the west coast of the North Island and through the Manawatu province. Pass through Palmerston North to the scenic Manawatu Gorge and into the Hawkes Bay province, a very productive farming region well known for its sheep farms, cropping, vineyards and orchards. Continue through the rural areas of Dannevirke, Waipukurau, and Te Aute, before arriving in the twin cities of Napier and Hastings. Check into your hotel in the Art Deco city of Napier. The rest of the day at leisure to relax or perhaps take a walk around this fascinating city that was rebuilt in the 'Art Deco' architectural style of the 1930's after having been flattened by the 1931 Napier Earthquake, or perhaps takes a drive to the vineyards, or Havelock North & Te Mata Peak.

DAY 7: NAPIER

Today is a free day at leisure with your rental vehicle and an opportunity to explore on your own or to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as a visit to the Gannet Colony at Cape Kidnappers or take an “Art Deco” Napier tour, or perhaps a vineyard wine tour. (Please note that above Options are not included in the tour costs)

DAY 8: NAPIER / TAUPO / ROTORUA

Enjoy a self drive ½ day morning sightseeing tour of some of the highlights of Rotorua including a visit to Te Puia Thermal Reserve to see boiling mudpools and geysers and learn about Maori culture. Also visit the Paradise Valley Springs to see New Zealand trout, birds and wildlife before continuing on to the Agrodome where you will watch a New Zealand Farm show featuring sheep dog demonstrations, cow milking and learn about the New Zealand sheep farming industry and the different breeds of sheep. The afternoon is at leisure for Optional activities such as a visit to the Polynesian Pools or exploring around the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty region by self drive rental car. (Please note that Optional activities are not included in the tour costs.)

DAY 9: ROTORUA

Enjoy a self drive ½ day morning sightseeing tour of some of the highlights of Rotorua including a visit to Te Puia Thermal Reserve to see boiling mudpools and geysers and learn about Maori culture. Free day at leisure with an opportunity to explore on your own with self drive rental car or to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola ride up to Bob's Peak, TSS Earnslaw cruise across Lake Wakatipu to the Walter Peak Sheep Station, 4WD safaris and many more options. Enjoy Queenstown the "Adventure Capital" of New Zealand. (Please note that Optional activities above are not included in tour cost.)

DAY 11: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH
