DAY1: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH

Pick-up self drive rental vehicle on arrival at Christchurch International Airport. Self drive to your hotel in the “Garden City”. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the city on your own with rental vehicle..

DAY2: CHRISTCHURCH / KAIKOURA

Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive to Queenstown today. Depart the city of Christchurch and drive across the flat Canterbury Plains to the farming servicing centre of Geraldine and over rolling hill country to Fairlie before climbing up the Burkes Pass and into the MacKenzie High Country. Stop at the “Church of the Good Shepherd”on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Continue on past Lake Pukaki and Twizel and through the small settlement of Omarama before climbing over the Lindis Pass and then descending into the province of Central Otago. Drive across Lake Dunstan and pass through the fruit growing region around Cromwell. Drive on through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and arrive at Queenstown set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax.

DAY 3: KAIKOURA / BLENHEIM

Continue north to Blenheim this morning traveling along the Kaikoura Coast, alongside the Kaikoura mountain range for part of the way, through beautiful scenery to the heart of the Marlborough wine region, world famous for the Chardonnay and Savignon Blanc wines produced here. This afternoon you will enjoy a local tour and visit some of the local vineyards and can sample the latest vintage.

DAY 4: BLENHEIM / NELSON

Transfer to Nelson today via the Pelorus Bridge scenic reserve, Havelock and the Rai Valley to arrive at your hotel with the rest of the day at leisure, with plenty of time to relax and explore this city with its many cafes and craft shops. Nelson is the sunshine capital of New Zealand and is also the geographic centre of the country.

DAY 5:NELSON / ABEL NATIONAL PARK / NELSON

This morning you will be taken to the Abel Tasman National Park for the day where you will have an opportunity to spend time exploring this beautiful part of the coastline which surrounds the National Park. Take a walk along the coastal track or perhaps hire a sea kayak to fully appreciate the beauty of the region with its golden sands and clear blue waters or take a launch cruise along the coast. (Please note Optional activities are not included in the tour costs.)

DAY 6: NELSON / PUNAKAIKI

Transfer to Punakaiki on the West Coast. Pass through farmland and apple orchards as you leave Nelson behind and travel through the scenic Buller Gorge following the Buller River to the West Coast. Travel south along this rugged and uninviting coastline to Punakaiki, home to the well known “Pancake Rocks” and their spectacular blow holes which put on quite a display of natures force when the tides are right. The rest of the day at leisure with an opportunity to explore the blow holes and the nearby Papamoa National Park on your own, or perhaps take a walk on the beach

DAY 7: PUNAKAIKI / GREYMOUTH / CHRISTCHURCH

Transfer from Punakaiki to Greymouth heading south along the West Coast with its rugged scenery as the prevailing westerly wind blows in from the Tasman Sea. Arrive at Greymouth Railway Station and board the Tranz Alpine Express for the scenic rail journey across the Southern Alps Mountain Range via the Arthurs Pass to the “Garden City” of Christchurch once more. Transfer to hotel in early evening.

DAY 8: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH

Check out of your hotel and this morning is at leisure until it is time to self drive to Queenstown Airport and drop-off the rental car before boarding your departure flight. There may be an opportunity for some last minute shopping or time to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola rides, 4WD safaris and many more options. Enjoy your last day in the very picturesque Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of New Zealand. [Please note that above Options are not included in the tour costs].
