DAY1: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH

Pick-up self drive rental vehicle on arrival at Christchurch International Airport. Self drive to your hotel in the “Garden City”. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the city on your own with rental vehicle..

DAY2: CHRISTCHURCH / MOUNT COOK / DUNEDIN

Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive to Queenstown today. Depart the city of Christchurch and drive across the flat Canterbury Plains to the farming servicing centre of Geraldine and over rolling hill country to Fairlie before climbing up the Burkes Pass and into the MacKenzie High Country. Stop at the “Church of the Good Shepherd”on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Continue on past Lake Pukaki and Twizel and through the small settlement of Omarama before climbing over the Lindis Pass and then descending into the province of Central Otago. Drive across Lake Dunstan and pass through the fruit growing region around Cromwell. Drive on through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and arrive at Queenstown set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax.

DAY 3: DUNEDIN

This morning you will enjoy a self drive city sightseeing tour including the First Church, the Octagon, Dunedin Cathedral, Botanical Gardens, Town Belt, and the University of Otago. In the afternoon you will have time to drive out along the Otago Peninsula following the harbour edge to the Royal Albatross Colony Visitors Centre. Later visit Natures Wonders to see the Yellow Eyed Penguins and then visit Larnach Castle & Grounds, built by William Larnach in the nineteenth century and the only castle in New Zealand. Return to your hotel afterwards. Rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore this lively student city.

DAY 4: DUNEDIN /QUEENSTOWN

Check out of your hotel this morning. Today you will depart Dunedin and self drive across the Taieri Plains and follow the Clutha River through to Central Otago passing through the areas where the gold rush started in the 1860's to Alexandra, then following the Clutha River to Cromwell and through the rugged Kawarau Gorge to Queenstown, nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Check-in to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax.

DAY 5: QUEENSTOWN / MILFORD SOUND / QUEENSTOWN

Full day self drive excursion to Milford Sound. Travel alongside the shores of Lake Wakatipu beneath the towering Remarkables mountain range and across the flat Southland Plains to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park, a World Heritage Park. Pass through Beech forests, glaciated valleys, the Homer Tunnel with its 1:10 gradient, and stunning scenery to reach the majestic Milford Sound. Enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord which is dominated by Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls. Return to Queenstown afterwards.

DAY 6: QUEENSTOWN / CHRISTCHURCH

Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive to Christchurch traveling through the Kawarau Gorge once more and the fruit growing area around Cromwell and across Lake Dunstan and through Central Otago to the Lindis Pass and up into the MacKenzie High Country, through the settlements of Omarama, Twizel and on to Lake Tekapo. Descend Burkes Pass to Fairlie and pass through gentle rolling hill country to the farming servicing centre of Geraldine, before reaching the long, flat, straight roads of the Canterbury Plains and arriving back in the "Garden City" of Christchurch. The rest of day is at leisure.

DAY 7: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH

Check out of your hotel and this morning is at leisure until it is time to self drive to Queenstown Airport and drop-off the rental car before boarding your departure flight. There may be an opportunity for some last minute shopping or time to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, gondola rides, 4WD safaris and many more options. Enjoy your last day in the very picturesque Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of New Zealand. [Please note that above Options are not included in the tour costs].
